Description:

L'Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement (IECD) is a French development organization operating in the field of international solidarity. It has been operating in Lebanon since 1989. Today, IECD and its local partners implement several Training and Professional Integration, Support to Small Enterprises and Access to Education and Health Care projects.

The situation in the local labor market and especially the high rate of unemployment had previously led IECD and its partner, Foyer de la Providence, to intervene conjointly in the promotion, development and implementation of vocational education curricula in the industrial field. They developed as well a specialized school “Mosaik” targeting students with learning disabilities.

The IECD in partnership with Foyer de la Providence and its two entities Mosaik and Trait d'Union is now launching a new project. The overall objective of this project is to increase the employability of young people in Lebanon, especially those most vulnerable, by developing their hard skills, soft skills and improving their access to information.

One part of this project is based on the implementation of adapted vocational trainings (VT) and productive workshops. Those trainings will offer to vulnerable youth an opportunity to develop their technical capacities in an environment adapted to their special needs. The implementation of those trainings will rely on the experience of the Foyer de la Providence (Mosaik special needs school and Trait d'Union ressource centre), Arcenciel, Skoun and IECD. For each of those training, the curricula will be adapted to the specific needs of the students and the trainers will be trained to the adapted teaching techniques.

Key responsabilites:
  • The adaptation and implementation of five Vocational Training (VT) programs which will facilitate the access of people with special needs (mental or physical disabilities as well as learning disabilities) to fields of specialization that are currently out of their reach.
  • The creation or adaptation of three protected workshops. Those workshops mainly aim to provide on-the-job training opportunities for particularly vulnerable unemployed young people. Depending on their needs, it can also provide a safe working place where some can find long-term employment.

His/her main tasks will consist in:

  • Coordinating the field surveys, the preparatory phase and the identification of the activities according to different criteria (feasibility, impact on the youth, long-term adaptability and, for the workshops, financial sustainability)
  • Implementing the adaptation of the VT/workshops taking into consideration the needs of the various beneficiaries. For the workshop: s/he will have to coordinate the assessment of the material needs, in terms of adapted venues and equipment, with the support of an occupational therapist.
  • Collaborating with the teachers in all the adaptation process and coordinating their training so they can acquire the teaching skills necessary to carry out the sessions
  • Carrying out the creation of manuals for all trainings and their various adaptations so they can be available in resource centers
  • Coordinating the follow-up of the implementation of the VT/workshop and the final evaluation of skills acquired by the trainers.

Most of the phases of these activities (adaptation, training of trainers, implementation and follow-up) will be executed through the collaboration of the partners mentioned above and the support of external expertise.
