2015 - 2019 agriculture strategy launched with EU support

The Ministry of Agriculture launched its 2015 - 2019 strategy during an event organised yesterday under the auspices of the Prime Minister Tammam Salam.  The director general of the Ministry, Louis Lahhud, noted that the strategy was developed with support from Agriculture and Rural Development Project (ARDP) funded by the EU and with technical assistance from a Consortium composed of Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari (MAIB) and Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier, the Lebanese International Business and Communication Company (IBCC), lead by the Italian AGRICONSULTING Company.  Lahhud clarified that the strategy is financed by the European Union and will be implemented in eight directions, namely providing healthy and quality nutrition from local production and exports through producing a food safety policy, increasing production and competitiveness, strengthening rational management and sustainable use of natural resources, strengthening agricultural extension, education and agricultural and scientific research, strengthening the cooperatives sector, modernising the structure of the Ministry and upgrading its role and addressing the impact of climate change.
