In its issue of today, Al Akhbar newspaper addressed the pivotal role of women, both workers and “housewives”, in managing household matters, especially those economic related. The newspaper described the housewife, even not the working one, as an economic expert, for she regulates a large part of the spending, and hence, the family’s stability is largely dependent on her economic management. Al Akhbar wrote that, the centrality of the role of women is particularly seen during special occasions, where costs, in general, tend to increase and housewives are forced to reconcile the needs of the family and children and available material resources. In this respect, Al Akhbar highlighted the story of Dina Abu Haidar, a working mother of two, who opted to buy her husband and kids clothes during the discount period, thus saving nearly 60% of their original price. As a housewife, Dina explained, “I have to determine the priorities of my family, and therefore, draw a line between necessities and luxuries”. It is very important to know how to wisely use the cash at hand, pointing out that the purchasing strategy she adopted has helped her to better invest in her time. Generally, shopping is time consuming, especially during the holidays, Abu Haidar maintained. But since she plans on shopping ahead, this gave her ample time to carry out other money generating activities besides her regular job. (Al Akhbar, May 28, 2019)
