The Association for the Promotion and Exhibition of the Arts in Lebanon (APEAL) announced in a press conference yesterday Natasha Gasparian and Miriam Dallal as winners of APEAL/Maria Geagea Arida scholarships for 2017. The laureates were reportedly selected for their academic and professional accomplishments as well as for their distinctive oral presentations. On the occasion, APEAL secretary and scholarship committee member, Nada Bulos Asaad, said this year’s awards have a special significance. For besides Dallal’s felicitous scholarship to follow-up her doctoral degree at the French Sorbonne University, Gasparian will be among the first students to enroll in the master’s program in art history and curating at AUB this fall. Asaad pointed out that the initiative by a number of universities in Lebanon to introduce new curricula to arts is “great news for the country.” “It falls in line with APEAL’s undertakings and objectives,” Asaad said. Promoting arts and artists, she added, will motivate Lebanese youth to pursue higher studies in the field. (An Nahar, June 21, 2017)
