Guest houses beat hotels in Lebanon

2-7-2018

The tourism ministry is trying to diversify the industry by shifting focus from festivals to eco and cultural tourism, Al Diyar newspaper reported. Quoting well-informed tourism sources, the newspaper said a model for this vision is in the flourishing guesthouses in various towns and villages across the country that are well-equipped to receive aficionados of sports, culture and environment. The purpose of setting up such hostels is to familiarize foreign tourists and Lebanese alike with popular customs, ordinary life and traditional cuisine of the Lebanese villages, Al Diyar said, stressing that prices remain lower than regular hotels. According to the same sources, the occupancy rate at guesthouses has reached nearly 100% for the summer season and has been extended from May till October, noting that Lebanon boasts numerous prospects to be the most alluring touristic destination in the region amidst the stability it enjoys. Among the activities taking place in the different Lebanese districts, Al Diyar pointed to the Lebanon Mountain Trail thru-walk from Andakit in the North to Marjeyoun in the South, in addition to the event organized by InterContinental Mzaar Mountain Resort & Spa in Kfar Zebian, sitting at 2000 m above sea level. It said guests can spend a whole peaceful and quite weekend at a fair and reasonable price, customized especially for young people. (Al Diyar, June 30, 2018)
