‘Illegitimate child’ dropped from personal status registries
Following the January 2018 decision advising all registries to refrain from including ‘illegitimate child’ in any individual registers (c.f: https://goo.gl/LW9CiD), the director general of Personal Statues, Brig. Gen. Elias Khoury, issued a Circular No. 38 yesterday regarding comments included on the registration statement. According to the circular, a large number of registrars still add in terms which discriminate between citizens or expose their status or their private lives without any legal justification. Khoury asked all concerned registry officers to be careful when drafting the individual registers, taking into consideration the privacy and dignity of each citizen by not adding any unwanted observation. The only exception is that which is related to requests by the judicial or security authorities to do so. (Al Mustaqbal, March 27, 2019)
