Future Movement MP Roula Tabsh on Saturday urged the government to contribute to women empowerment through mainstreaming the culture of nurseries inside public and private institutions. Tabsh who was speaking during a workshop organized by the Syndicate of Nurseries Owners in Lebanon said working mothers should benefit from scholarships and financial aid, in line with the commitment on the part of the government of Lebanon to the implementation of the 5th SDG goal (UN Agenda 2030) on gender equality and women empowerment. Tabsh revealed that she has made a positive first step, which is exempting daycare centers from the value-added tax (VAT). She said she hoped to finalize a draft bill that grants nurseries similar exemptions and privileges like schools and bring them under the jurisdiction of schools in terms of duties and rights. This is expected to benefit the community at large, particularly families and working women, Tabsh added. (Al Diyar, September 22, 2019)
