Law regulating the midwifery profession endorsed despite the absence of the March 14 representatives || Newspapers (Arabic)

16-11-2012

The Parliamentary Commission for Administration and Justice held a meeting yesterday, attended by a representative of the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Antoine Romanos as well as the president of the association of midwives, Ms. Yolla Atallah, a representative of the Saint Joseph University, midwife Nayla Doughan, a representative of the Lebanese University, midwife Randa Boustani and the legal representation of the association of midwives, Charles Ghafari.  The 14th March Coalition was absent from the meeting.
The Parliamentary Commission endorsed the law regulating the midewifery profession authorizing the formation of a trade union for the midwives. The proposed law will now be referred to the general assembly.
The representative of the Saint Joseph University, Nayla Doughan, noted to the Assafir newspaper that midwives have been waiting for this law since 1996 but they are now concerned that this meeting will now be contested given the absence of one major political coalition.  She also added that midwives are not partisan to any group and all they are keen on is the endorsement of the law and do not want to be caught in between the battles amongst the 8th and 14th March coalitions.
