Under the auspices of the Minister of Public Health represented by the General Director, Dr. Walid Ammar; the Ministry of Public Health, organized in Beirut, last week, a conference about the “Mother and Neonates Healthcare” program, in collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian cooperation agency, in order to spotlight the activities and achievements of this Italian supported program. This program, which is being implemented since 2010 in 13 governmental hospitals in the peripheral regions in Lebanon, has provided pregnant women with new, comprehensive and integrated services such as medical consultancy and clinical tests. The program that is expected to shortly end, aimed at decreasing the death mortality among women during labor, which is considered to be relatively high at 23 deaths for every 100 thousand birth, providing pregnant women with decent healthcare and support, and strengthening the relations between the concerned governmental hospitals and their surroundings.
