GVC Gruppo di Volontariato Civile is an Italian NGO (non-governmental organisation) working in the Bekaa Valley in support of Syrian refugee families.
For the implementation of its activities in the frame of the emergency “Provision of improved access to safe water and sanitation to under-served Syrian and Lebanese families in the Bekaa Valley”.
 
Job Description
Under the supervision of the Project Manager (PM), the Hygiene Promotion Field Officer (HPFO) will in general co-ordinate all the activities related to the Hygiene Promotion campaign.

Key responsabilites:
  • Identify and select the 5 Hygiene Promoters (HPs) who will be part of the Hygiene Promotion team, and co-ordinate their work
  • Assess health and hygiene needs in the target areas
  • Design the contents and methodology of Hygiene Promotion campaigns as required by the project and according to the instructions of the PM and the guidelines of the humanitarian sector working groups
  • Organise and implement Hygiene Promotion campaigns
  • Deliver the training courses to the target communities, through focus sessions (home stations), public sessions and other activities and events
  • Design, organise and implement any other events and activities with different groups of beneficiaries (women, children, men) with the aim at involving them in the GVC hygiene awareness campaign
  • Develop a certain degree of autonomy in managing issues related to the daily implementation of the activities
  • Design or revise the content of the information material to be delivered to the attendants during the sessions
  • Participate in the pre/post monitoring and evaluation of the awareness campaign and provide inputs for the reports
  • Help the project team in the implementation of assessment and data-collection surveys
  • Refer to specialised agencies any special health and hygiene hardship cases, identified during the implementation of the awareness campaign
  • Record and report all the awareness sessions delivered by the Hygiene Promotion team during the awareness campaign
  • When needed, represent GVC in sector coordination meetings related to her/his duties
  • Prepare reports on her/his activities as per the PM’s and TC’s requests
  • Keep herself/himself up-to-date on sector working groups’ and local authorities’ news, reports, recommendations, requirements, etc.
  • Quickly react to changes - of any kind - in the context in which the project activities are being implemented, inform the senior management about them and contribute to finding proper adjustments
Key competencies:
  • Education degree: Bachelor degree in the field of Education, University degree in health-related fields
  • Proven field experience in the implementation of humanitarian projects, preferably from refugee, social and WASH projects in complex emergencies and with experience from working in a difficult security environment
  • Proven communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Fluency in the English language
  • Free access to the target areas
  • Basic computer skills (word, excel)
  • Holder of a valid driver’s licence
  • Hard worker, team player and goal oriented
  • Flexible and well organised
  • Able to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision
  • Able to react quickly to changing situations and take initiatives
  • Security, political and cultural aware
Contract terms:

Commencement: July 2013
Contract period: 5 months
Salary: according to experience and GVC salary scale
Accommodation: not provided by the employer
