The Arab Union for Specialized Women, affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity in the Arab League, held yesterday its fourth annual gala dinner under the title "A Woman and a Project". The proceeds of the event which aims to strengthen internal tourism and break the barriers between Lebanese regions and their residents, go to support women students’ higher education. It highlighted the roles of leading Lebanese women and honored a number of them for their great contribution to social and public work. On the occasion, the president of the Arab Union for Specialized Women- Lebanon Branch, Nariman Jamal Ghanem, underlined the pivotal role of women in the progress of society through regional networking and the exchange of expertise between the different disciplines of Union members in light of the challenges Lebanon currently faces. The honorees were: Itaf Hamzeh Abu Zeinab (vice president of the Eye Bank and former social counsellor at the Sharia Court) from Saida; Professor Nuha Ghoseini (former mayor of Baakline) from the Shuf area; Sadiqa Kebbe Qamarredine (head of Kon Insan charity organization) from the North and Rima Karnabi (former deputy mayor of Arsal) from the Beqaa.
