The ISF Directorate General-Public Relations Division announced in a statement yesterday that the CyberCrime and Intellectual Property Protection Bureau- Judiciary Police Unit, received a complaint of extortion from a Lebanese woman filed to the competent judiciary against a person (Lebanese, born in 1964). The plaintiff said the suspect contacted her via the whatsapp videocall application and saved intimate snapshots which he used for blackmailing and threatening to publish them on social media if she did not pay USD 150,000. Upon technical and digital surveillance and investigation, the above bureau managed to locate and arrest the man in Beirut where he admitted the charges. The ISF Directorate’s statement warned citizens, men and women, to refrain from taking indecent photos of themselves in any circumstances so as not to fall victims of extortion.
