The fourth edition of the White and Rose wines festival organized by the Municipality of Jbeil in cooperation with Bank of Beirut was launched on June 28th on the quayside of the heritage Byblos Port in Byblos. On the event which ended June 30, mayor Wissam Zaarour pointed out that the festival has its impact on agriculture and farmers. He commended the agriculture ministry’s efforts to support farmers in switching to new and alternative crop cultivation, namely vines, and declared the preparedness of the municipal council to reinforce similar agri businesses. For his part, MP Ziad Hawwat, who sponsored the event, stated that the excellent quality of the Lebanese wine has allowed it to compete in international markets, noting that around 7 million bottles of local wine are exported each year to Europe and the Americas, stressing that the festival was not only touristic, but also a national occasion. Likewise, the director general of the ministry of agriculture, Louis Lahud, said the festival which took off in 2015 will travel to all regions across Lebanon for it is a promising sector in the Lebanese economy. Lahud pressed the need to support agricultural production and prop it locally and abroad as well as improve its infrastructure, disclosing that decisions will be issued soon to the end of protecting national production that is requisite for stability.
