The Lebanese cabinet approved on Tuesday a draft bill granting fathers a 3-day paternity leave coinciding with childbirth. The said leave will be added to the annual holiday in accordance with the role sharing between men and women. The bill has been referred to parliament for ratification. The decision was widely received by men but who complained that the three days were not enough. Anthony who is expecting the birth of his first child, said this would enable him to spend more time with his wife and newborn giving some form of balance in responsibilities of children raising, yet he regretted the very tight break after all. Likewise, Demi who expects a twin, also noted that the three-day vacation is too short, revealing that he was planning to take a few days from his annual vacation to be with his wife. For his part, the minister of state for women’s affairs, Jean Ogassapian, welcomed the decision stating that it comes as part of promoting gender equality, pointing out that he sought to secure additional days but was faced with opposition within the Legislature.
