As part of efforts by the civil society organisations to stimulate the waning economy in the North, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Tripoli and the North hosted yesterday the annual ceremony held by the Cooperative for Olive Growers in Tripoli under the sponsorship of agriculture minister Akram Shehayeb, which included an honoring of elderly olive farmers in the Caza. During the event, the Cooperative president, Abdel Hakim Samrut, underlined the role of the association in preserving the agriculture wealth of the olive tree and its resources, demanding greater official support in this direction. On his part, Tawfic Dabusi, chair of the Tripoli Chamber, maintained that the Chamber is fully aware of the need to preserve the olive cultivation and its products and has hence placed them among its priorities.
On the other hand, Rene Mu3awad Foundation decided to donate cow milking equipment and milk storage apparatuses to a number of agricultural cooperatives located in Akkar and the North. This move comes as part of ‘promoting the milk and milk products sector in North Lebanon’ project funded by the European Union and implemented by the Foundation in the district of Majdlaya-Zgharta. The benefiting cooperatives are the following: The Cooperative Association for the Development of Livestock in Hakr Dahri, Andkit; the Cooperative Association for Animal Husbandry and Milk Production in Zgharta Caza; the Cooperative Association for Livestock Development and Husbandry in Andkit; the Cooperative Association for Milk Production in Joomah-Akkar and, finally, the Agriculture Development Cooperative Association in Diniyeh.
