The Minister of State for Women’s Affairs, Jean Ogassapian, emphasized in an interview with L’Orient le Jour, on the Ministry’s plan to reinforce women’s rights in addition to communication and networking with institutions concerned with women’s affairs. He added that his Ministry is currently working on launching its own website to inform the public about its course of action. In addition, Ogassapian revealed that his Ministry is currently working on a project approved by the Council of Ministers, which includes a study on the conditions of women and the impact of conflict and extremism in Lebanon and the region. Ogassapian indicated that the major challenge that women face, is to arrive at an increase of their participation in the public sector, considering that this will require a social, political and cultural transformation in attitudes. In the same context, Ogassapian noted the achievements of women in the private sector, which is backed and supported by society, whereas the situation is different in the public sector, where the women’s weak representation is surprising according to the Minister.
