In cooperation with the head of the National Commission for Lebanese Women NCLW, Claudine Aoun Rukuz, the municipality of Zouk Mkail yesterday launched the ‘support cultural tourism in Zouk Mkail’ project by municipality women members. The project is part of ‘promoting women’s political participation at the local and national level in Lebanon’ initiative, implemented by NCLW in coordination with the German Agency for International Cooperation, GIZ, and funded by the German government within ‘Strengthening women in decision-making in the Middle East’, regional project (LEAD). The launch concludes the training sessions that targeted female municipal members and staff on the management of projects, leadership, change and the development of capacities and skills aimed at preparing and implementing gender-sensitive projects that respond to the basic needs of their country. The women of Zouk Mkail have opted to allocate the support given by the project toward the rehabilitation of the Antoun Kazan Museum and the House of Youth and Culture, as well as provision of the necessary equipment and installations to bolster cultural tourism in the town. Rukuz on the occasion, explained the correlation between a project promoting women’s political engagement and another aimed to boost cultural tourism, saying both contribute to public life.
