The Center for American Women and Politics announced on August 8 that a total of 243 women (74 Republicans against 169 Democrats) have secured party nominations for seats in the House of Representatives in the November US elections. The Centre expects the number to rise with primary elections in 13 US states. According to the center, the previous number was recorded in the 2018 midterm elections, reportedly 234 women. It said that nearly a quarter of the 435 seats are held by women (88 Democrats and 13 Republicans), recalling that Nancy Pelosi, the current Democratic Speaker of the House, is the first woman ever to hold the position.
