Syrian women civil defense volunteers of Idlib
In its Monday’s issue, Al Hayat newspaper shed light on the 8-month old Women Civil Defense Center Idlib affiliated with the Civil Defense Directorate on the Syrian Coast. The only-women center (8 volunteers and rescuers) provides many services, including medical services, like first aid and treatment of wounds and burns, special services for women, like prenatal care, awareness campaigns on reproductive health and nursing courses, in addition to child-related services, according to the director of the center, Rihab Berni. Al Hayat learned that the female volunteers have started a campaign earlier this year to educate the residents and refugees on disaster risks, notably fire safety in refugee settlement camps and kitchens, unexploded war munitions and early warning systems of impending air strikes and best prevention methods. On the campaign, the media officer at the Latakia Civil Defense Directorate, Hassan Darwisho, stressed to Al Hayat that the center is operating in full, praising the distinguished tasks carried out by the women volunteers and their simple ways in provision of information. For her part, Hind Omar, a displaced Syrian beneficiary said the work of the center strengthens the role of women in society to a great extent and dismantle the stereotypical roles expected from them.
