The minister of industry, Hussein Haj Hassan, stressed on Tuesday the importance of joint work between his ministry, the Industrial Research Institute and the Lebanese Standards Institution (LIBNOR). Haj Hassan who was speaking during the opening of the 3-day food safety training course organized by the ministry underlined the need to deliver information and transfer expertise to the Lebanese industrialists in order to comply with international standards necessary for accessing foreign markets. Haj Hassan also called for the development of the food processing sector, as exports within this category constitute about 75% of total industrial exports. This means that Lebanese-made food products are in demand by foreign consumers, the minister said, noting that exports returned to the country do not exceed 1%. Again, this proves that Lebanese industrialists are in observance of international specifications and that the ministry, the Institute and Libnor are doing their job. In conclusion, Haj Hassan asked industrialists whose exported goods are repeatedly returned to inform the ministry of the causes in order to resolve them. (Al Diyar, December 22, 2017)
