The minister of tourism, Michel Pharaon, inaugurated last Friday the first edition of Beirut Restaurants Festival organized by the Syndicate of Owners of Restaurants, Cafes, Night Clubs and Pastries in Lebanon in collaboration with the leading Hospitality Services Company and with the support from the ministry. The event held over the past weekend was attended by a crowd of dignitaries and food lovers who toured the Old Mar Mkhail Bus Station venue which hosted over 70 top eateries of the capital. The festival also celebrated the new title awarded to Beirut by the renowned Travel & Leisure Magazine. During the opening ceremony, Pharaon highlighted the unique local and international culinary selections catered by Beirut bistros and restaurants to both city dwellers and external visitors. Lauding Beirut’s new leading international ranking, Pharaon pressed the need to promote the sector in keeping with the latest accomplishment, particularly that Lebanon now exports hospitality expertise, skills, excellence and franchises, and that “our diet and mezzeh have been declared as a world heritage by UNESCO”.
